COLORBAR Velvet Matte Twig

I had read a lot about these lipsticks in the Indian blogosphere and wanted to try my hands on these from a long time. But after hearing about their staining properties I was a bit reluctant to buy these but after seeing the shades offered by them, temptation took better of me, and I bought two of the lipsticks from this range.

The range of shades offered by Colorbar is mind blowing. You get a whopping 45 shades to choose from, ranging from Reds, Pinks, Browns, Nudes, they have it all. I’m sure none of you will return empty handed from a COLORBAR counter.

What Colorbar says about the product?          

For a rich lip colour with a creamy shine, the Velvet Matte lipsticks, available in 45 stunning shades infuse the lips with vibrancy. Its unique 2-in-1 formulation gives the lips a creamy yet matte finish. A one of a kind product in India, it has super softening agents that gives the lips a soft and supple appearance while keeping them nourished with Vitamin E. Staying on up to 5 hours on application, the Velvet Matte lipsticks  can be further accentuated with a lip gloss and a lip liner.

Packaging:

The lippy comes in a silver cylindrical packaging with a transparent lip and a color indicator at the bottom which makes it easier to locate it if you own more than one of these. The lipstick name and number are mentioned at the bottom of the lipsticks. The packaging is sturdy but not sturdy enough to carry it in your purse as the cap closes with a light click sound but doesn’t shut very tightly. The overall packaging is quite nice and is quite similar to NYX Round lipsticks. 

Texture:

Even though it’s a matte lipstick, its texture of this lipstick is smooth and soft. It glides without any tugging or pulling and does not feel heavy on the lips. Despite being a matte it does not dry out the lips. The lipstick is opaque enough to cover lip pigmentation is a single swipe. Two swipes give a true colour as you see in the bullet.  The lipstick sets to matte finish after some minutes of application. The lippy has a faint vanilla smell, something to my liking.

 Shade:

Twig is an out and out brown shade. This shade does not brighten the face in an anyway but doesn’t wash out either. I personally like brown shade as I think it suits me well but not a true brown. I like reddish brown and peachy browns which add life to my face. This shade would not look good on dusky beauties as it would make them look darker.it would look good on fair to medium skinned beauties the most. Unlike other Velvet Matte lipsticks, this does not stain at all.

  The lipstick stays for a really long time and stays even more when blotted with a tissue paper. It just stays on and on and even survives a full meal and then fades beautifully. The lipstick accentuates fine lines mainly because of its matte texture and might get a bit drying especially if you have dry lips. Hence it is advisable to apply a lip balm underneath.

Final Verdict:

COLORBAR Velvet Matte lipsticks are one of the best budget lipsticks available in the Indian market with an array of shades to choose from. There is a shade for everyone in this range. The staining issue might be bothering, but if you overlook the staining part, these are one of the best long wearing lipsticks available. This particular shade does not stain a wee bit. Brown lovers should surely give this a try.

P.s I have even heard that the previous Velvet Matte lipstick were creamier and did not leave any stain behind. With the change in their packaging, it seems that they have changed the formula too. Wish they could do something about the formula, or if nothing restore it to its previous formula. Color bar has been increasing its price like anything. From Rs 150 they increased it to Rs 225 and now they have increased Velvet matte lipstick price to Rs 250. The same is the case with other COLORBAR products. Wonder what they are up to.

 Summing up the pros and cons:

Pros:

1.       Affordable.

2.       Staying power is very good

3.       Non -transferable.

4.       An array of shades to choose from.

Cons:

1.       This particular colour will not suit everyone.

2.       Might be a bit drying for some.

I would give this a 3 on 5.
